When looking for a VPS, one of the first questions is almost always the same: how much does a VPS cost per month?

What we always say here at Servereasy is that to understand VPS costs, you need to look at the resources required for your specific project. A showcase website, a WordPress blog, an e-commerce, and a web app can have very different needs. For this reason, there is no single VPS price that works for everyone.

We at Servereasy.it offer several Cloud VPS configurations, so you can adapt resources to your project’s features. Our solutions start at 8 € per month and go up to 79 € per month, with setups ranging from 2 to 16 vCPUs, from 4 to 64 GB of RAM, and from 60 to 960 GB of storage. Therefore, the choice should not be made just by looking at the price. In our experience, it is much more useful to start with the type of project and understand what resources are really needed.

What is a VPS?

VPS stands for Virtual Private Server. Simply put, it is a virtual server that offers a separate environment compared to other servers on the same infrastructure. Unlike standard shared hosting, a VPS gives you more control over resources and environment configuration. CPU, RAM, and storage space are provided based on the plan you choose.

It is a great solution when shared hosting no longer offers what you need, but you do not yet need to use a dedicated server. Another important aspect is the ability to choose the operating system. Our VPS are available with Linux or Windows and, depending on your needs, you can also request the installation of a custom ISO provided by the client. Basically, a VPS offers a more flexible environment than simple hosting, without having to manage the physical hardware directly.

Which VPS to choose based on the project type?

Not all projects need the same amount of resources. A small personal blog can run on a very different setup than an e-commerce with many products or an application used by many users at the same time. For this reason, we have divided our configurations into different levels to give you some quick examples.

VPS for Small websites and blogs (WordPress, portfolio)

BL1: 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 60 GB Storage, 2 Gbit/s

BL1 is our entry-level VPS plan. It is designed for lightweight projects that do not require a large processing capacity.

It can be considered for:

• showcase websites;
• personal blogs;
• WordPress sites with low or moderate traffic;
• portfolios;
• test and development environments;
• small personal VPN servers;

For a newly started project, this can be an interesting configuration to keep the initial VPS cost low without buying resources that are not needed.

VPS for Business websites and small e-commerce

BL2: 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 120 GB Storage, 2 Gbit/s

BL2 doubles the main resources compared to BL1. It can therefore be considered when the project begins to have greater needs.

Possible uses include:

• small e-commerce, such as WooCommerce;
• business websites with medium traffic;
• sites with databases that require more resources;
• small business management software;
• CRM for a limited number of users;
• lightweight game servers.

We at Servereasy recommend considering BL2 even when a project is growing and the basic configuration starts to become tight.

VPS for E-commerce and professional web applications

BL3: 8 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 240 GB Storage, 2 Gbit/s

With BL3 you move to a configuration with 8 vCPUs and 16 GB of RAM. It is a solution designed for projects that require a greater availability of resources.

It can be suitable, depending on the actual load, for:

• structured e-commerce like (PrestaShop or Magento);
• e-learning platforms like Moodle;
• multisite hosting;
• MySQL or PostgreSQL database servers;
• more complex web applications;
• ERP systems;
• management software used by companies and SMEs.

However, there is no precise number of visits that determines when it is necessary to move to BL3. A site can have many visits but use few resources, while an application with fewer users may require much more memory and processing capacity.

For this reason, in our experience, it is more useful to first evaluate the real behavior of the project.

VPS for Web Apps and projects with high resource consumption

BL4: 12 vCPU, 32 GB RAM, 480 GB Storage, 5 Gbit/s

This is a configuration that can be considered for projects with higher needs, such as:

• high traffic web apps;
• SaaS applications;
• editorial portals;
• sites that must handle traffic spikes;
• data processing and analysis activities;
• data aggregators;
• audio or video streaming servers;
• dedicated caching nodes;
• more demanding multiplayer game servers.

Here it becomes particularly important to observe the actual consumption of CPU and RAM. Having more resources available does not automatically mean using them all: it depends on the software and the way it was developed and configured.

Infrastructures with high resource needs

BL5: 16 vCPU, 64 GB RAM, 960 GB Storage, 5 Gbit/s

BL5 is the configuration with the greatest availability of resources within the indicated range.

It can be evaluated for projects that need a significant amount of memory and processing capacity, including:

• e-commerce with high volumes of traffic and transactions;
• complex infrastructures;
• Kubernetes environments;
• large relational or NoSQL databases;
• CPU-based AI and machine learning processing activities;
• large-scale enterprise backends;
• mobile applications with many simultaneous users.

Also in this case the configuration must be chosen based on the work the server will have to do. A project does not automatically perform better just because it has more resources: software, databases, cache, and system configuration also play an important role.

What does the cost of a VPS depend on?

Looking at the price table, you notice a significant difference between BL1 and BL5. The reason is mainly related to the available resources.

vCPU

vCPUs represent the processing capacity available for the virtual server.

Our configurations start from 2 vCPUs and reach 16 vCPUs. A simple application can have very different needs compared to a system that simultaneously runs databases, web services, and other processes.

RAM

RAM memory becomes particularly important when multiple processes are running on the server at the same time. It goes from the 4 GB of BL1 up to the 64 GB of BL5. The required amount depends on the operating system, the installed applications, and their memory consumption.

Storage

The available space also changes based on the configuration. BL1 offers 60 GB, while BL5 reaches 960 GB.

Uplink

Our VPS feature a 2 Gbit/s uplink in the BL1, BL2, and BL3 configurations, while BL4 and BL5 reach 5 Gbit/s. The connection speed can become an important element for certain services, especially when large amounts of data must be managed.

Operating system

The choice between Linux and Windows may depend on the applications that need to be used. Our VPS support different operating systems and also allow the installation of an ISO provided by the client. This leaves more freedom in configuring the environment.

Backup

All the indicated VPS configurations include 7 days of backup. For us this is an important aspect, because the price of a VPS should not be evaluated only based on the amount of CPU or RAM.

A backup available when needed can make the difference when a problem occurs.

VPS Hosting: What are the advantages?

The available resources are defined by the chosen configuration and the environment can be managed in a more personalized way. This allows you to install software and services that cannot always be used on a normal hosting. Then there is another aspect to consider: the ability to increase resources when the project grows. We at Servereasy believe that this flexibility is one of the main reasons why a VPS can be a great choice for a site or application intended to evolve over time.

Servereasy: infrastructure and services

The price of a VPS does not tell alone what is behind the service. Servereasy was founded in 2007 and operates with its own network infrastructure. We are accredited LIRs at RIPE and autonomously manage routing through our Autonomous System AS60798. We are also members of the MiX of Milan and use carriers such as GTT and Telecom Italia Sparkle. Free automatic backup

VPS backup is performed daily with a 7-day retention. This allows you to have recent copies of data available and to be able to deal more calmly with any problems that may occur during server management.

The infrastructure includes dual power supply for each rack and switches with redundant uplinks. The rooms also have badge-controlled access, an automatic fire alarm system, and 24/7 video surveillance. These are aspects that rarely appear when only comparing VPS prices, but which we think is correct to consider before choosing a service.

Our DDoS Protection for VPS

Another element to consider when choosing a server is network protection. Servereasy develops internally its own DDoS protection system since 2015. The basic Layer 3/4 protection is always active and is included in the VPS services. This means that traffic is monitored and attacks can be managed without requiring the manual activation of the protection.

Layer 3/4 Always-ON DDoS Protection

The Basic protection is included in the VPS and is active in Always-ON mode. The system was developed internally by Servereasy and is used for the mitigation of attacks at the network and transport level.

Advanced DDoS Protection

For more specific needs, an advanced protection is also available. This solution can be used when the project requires a higher level of protection than the basic protection.

Custom Layer 7 Protection

For particular web applications, it is also possible to evaluate a Layer 7 protection. It is a protection that directly concerns application traffic, so it can be useful in the presence of specific needs related to HTTP and HTTPS services.

How to choose the most suitable VPS for your project?

When comparing VPS prices, the monthly cost is certainly important. However, it should not be the only parameter. Before choosing a configuration, you should ask yourself what kind of project will be hosted, what applications will be installed, and how many resources are actually used. A WordPress site with few visits will have very different needs from an e-commerce. Likewise, a web application may require more RAM or CPU even with a relatively small number of users.

According to our analysis, these are the elements worth evaluating:

• project type;
• number and type of applications;
• CPU consumption;
• amount of RAM required;
• space occupied by files and databases;
• operating system;
• need for backups;
• connectivity needs;
• possibility of project growth.

The correct configuration, therefore, is not necessarily the cheapest one or the one with the most resources. It is the one that offers the necessary resources to the project without paying for capacity that will not be used.
